Then She Was Gone
Lisa Jewell
Book Review
Genre: Crime/Psychological Thriller
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
This novel was a quick read with edgy, poignant, emotional, and dark tropes. The characters were very interesting that you would either love or hate them, especially Laurel. They were fleshed out just enough to be familiar with them.
The climax has already unfolded in the first half of the book, so I got excited to delve even faster to know the rest of the plot. I just don’t like why one of the murders was not even acknowledged by the author, because I know the victim played a major role in the plot. The consolation was at least, the story was not drawn out. The climax was a bit predictable but Jewell still managed to suspend it, at least for me.
Trigger Warnings:
- family favoritism
- child disappearance
- death
- grief/loss
- mental and emotional manipulation
